Living Room Inspiration

When you're decorating a home, especially if you're starting from scratch, it can be really overwhelming to figure out a color scheme or overall look you want. I've found myself staying away from color thinking that if I stay neutral then I won't mess up a potential color scheme...except then I ended up with an entirely neutral, pretty dull living room. It's time to change that.

Since our apartment is fairly small, using similar colors in each room can help give our apartment a flow. However, to keep it interesting, it's best to use similar colors in different combinations. In our kitchen we are using navy, black, tan & red. In our bedroom and bathroom we are using a pale aqua/sea foam green with neutrals. So, for our living room we decided to use navy, pale aqua, and shades of green, like the colors of sea glass, for a cool colored room.

We also have a nautical theme going on in our home that developed out of our shared love of lighthouses, ocean colors, and the beach. We have several lanterns, photos of lighthouses and wanted to keep with that theme with bold navy stripes, beachy bottles and glass, and possibly a gallery wall above the couch with pictures of the ocean, my favorite scripture verse and other odds n' ends.

Here are some photos I found on Pinterest that have the blues and greens we're going to attempt in our living room. We plan to start with some throw pillows to bring in the color, some small projects, the gallery wall and maybe some paint...

So...what do you think?
